About Byteback

Where we began

Byteback was founded in 2002 with the purpose of providing a solution to the growing problem of redundant and waste IT and its impact on the environment.

From the outset, we have sought to remove the complexity and risk involved in the disposal of data bearing IT equipment – long before GDPR came along!  Our data destruction has always followed best practice and adheres to NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) standards within the ISO 27001 framework, providing assurance of GDPR compliance and customer peace of mind.

Long term, trusted relationships

We strive to work in partnership with our customers with an aim to identify their needs and tailor a solution that meets their equipment and data disposal requirements. Our reporting options are comprehensive and include data and asset destruction certification and collection inventories.

“With GDPR on the horizon, Byteback came to our rescue just in time to implement the changes we needed to make to ensure compliancy. They made it easy for us to protect our business and our customers.”

Everything we collect is separated into two initial categories; reusable and obsolete. Items in the obsolete category are disassembled into raw components: plastic, cardboard/paper, circuit boards, metal and cables. These materials are then distributed to authorised recycling plants in bulk. Reusable items go on to be used again in refurbished computers, many of which support our Bristol Computer Reuse scheme.

We’re proud to say that approximately 70% of what we collect is reused, with the remainder being recycled as raw materials, minimising our clients’ impact on the environment and providing an opportunity for the digitally excluded to benefit from old commercial technology.

Our expertise isn’t just in the destruction of data. We help our clients and partners to plan the refresh of their equipment, helping to identify even the most discreet devices that hold valuable information; something too often overseen.

We form partnerships with many organisations providing commercial services. These include Facilities Management, office relocation services, print and copy providers, IT and telecommunication solutions, removing their client’s burden of data destruction and enabling them to reliably extend their own service portfolio.

What’s more, with the additional credibility of a certified data disposal expert on board, our partners are much more likely to win new tenders with data management now at the forefront of client’s minds.

We proudly support the local public community by helping the digitally excluded to get online from just £75 through our Computer Reuse Project.
